When to Use a Prep Center Instead of Sending Directly to FBA

Helpful for new sellers deciding whether a prep center is worth it.

Some sellers send products directly from suppliers to Amazon FBA. That can work when the supplier understands Amazon requirements and products do not need additional prep.

A prep center is useful when products need labeling, packaging, inspection, bundling, or shipment staging before reaching FBA.

Use a prep center when

  • Your supplier cannot apply correct labels
  • Products need inspection before fulfillment
  • Inventory comes from multiple suppliers
  • You need to bundle or kit items
  • You want to split inventory across destinations
  • You need temporary storage
  • You want a U.S.-based receiving point
  • You are importing from overseas

Send directly to FBA when

  • Supplier can meet all prep requirements
  • Products are simple and low-risk
  • No inspection is needed
  • You trust supplier counts and packaging
  • Shipment plan is already finalized
