How to Talk to a Prep Center

What information to provide so providers can quote and process your shipment faster.

A prep center can only quote and plan for what you tell them. Vague requests get vague answers - or no answer at all, because the provider can't tell if the shipment fits their operation.

The fastest way to get a usable quote is to lead with the shipment specifics, not just the ask. Instead of "do you do labeling," describe the actual job: how many units, what condition they arrive in, and which services they need.

What to include

  • Product type and category
  • Unit and carton count
  • Where the shipment is coming from
  • How it will arrive (parcel, carton, pallet, LTL)
  • Which services you need (labeling, inspection, bundling, etc.)
  • Your timeline or deadline

Scenario

Compare two messages to the same prep center. "Do you do FBA prep?" gets a generic reply, or nothing. "I have 500 units of a poly-bagged apparel item arriving by small parcel from a domestic supplier next week - I need FNSKU labeling and carton labeling before forwarding to FBA" gets a real quote and a real turnaround estimate, because the provider can immediately tell whether it fits what they do.
